Non-Profit Teen Volunteering Platform to Integrate With Canvas Learning Management System

MISSION VIEJO, CA --(Marketwired - January 05, 2016) - Lion's Heart, a nationwide volunteer platform for 6th - 12th grade students, today announced its Certified Partnership with Instructure, a leading software-as-a-service (SaaS) technology company and designer of the Canvas learning management system (LMS). Canvas is a modern LMS that makes teaching and learning easier for educators and students. The partnership will allow Lion's Heart Members to access the organization's community service opportunities and volunteer history directly from the Canvas LMS.

Effective immediately, existing Lion's Heart Members can integrate their volunteer portfolio into Canvas to enable single-sign on access via the application. When Members log into Canvas, they will see a live feed of the most recent volunteer opportunities offered by Lion's Heart along side their academic information. Members can even manage their service commitments directly from the Canvas platform, making it easier than ever to give back to their communities.

"Many schools include community service projects as part of their curriculum, creating a need for volunteering resources in classrooms," said Amy von Kaenel, Head of Strategic Partnerships for Lion's Heart. "We hope the convenient access to service opportunities will help compassionate teens make a difference in their communities and encourage them to support their favorite causes."

"We are excited to partner with Lion's Heart and support the growing trend around project-based learning including community service assignments," said Melissa Loble, VP of Partners & Programs for Instructure. "Through Lion's Heart, Canvas now offers middle and high school students access to volunteer opportunities, leadership and volunteer training and a community service portfolio that showcases their individual causes and achievements."

About Lion's Heart
Founded in 2004, Lion's Heart is a national 501(c)(3) non-profit teen volunteer platform available to 6th - 12th grade students. The organization instills the value of community service in its Members, providing meaningful life skills through leadership opportunities and philanthropic experiences. Over the years, Members have performed a combined total of more than 400,000 volunteer hours, which equates to more than $9,000,000 in societal value.

Lion's Heart, which is headquartered in Southern California, has grown to more than 49 chapters across 10 states, and is actively expanding its reach by adding new chapters across the country. Groups have between three and twenty teens and are organized by gender, grade, and location. Though each group has a parent Class Coordinator, the teens elect their own officers, lead their own meetings, and decide how to serve their community -- with no fundraising.
